Arsenal look to lead the race for £57m World Cup winner, January deal on the cards as Wenger eyes a longterm successor for Sanchez

Arsenal are looking to step up their pursuit for Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller with so many European clubs said to be interested in the World Cup winner.

The Mirror have reported that Arsenal are focussed on making up for their abysmal summer transfer window and will ‘join [the] race’ for the World Cup winner.

The report suggests that Arsene Wenger is eyeing the prolific German goalscorer as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez with the Chilean expected to leave the club next summer when his contract expires.

The 27-year-old German has struggled of late to nail down a starting spot at the Allianz, which has subsequently prompted some of Europe’s elite clubs to show interest. There will be tough competition for Arsenal in securing a deal to bring the German talisman to North London with Italian publication Bild reporting that Chelsea, Juventus, and Liverpool are all set to be interested in the star.

Spanish news outlet Fichajes reported this summer that Liverpool were in the process of preparing a £57m bid for the 2010 World Cup golden boot winner.

It remains to be seen if the Gunners can fend off interest from so many other elite clubs to secure the signature of Muller, but with the German star growing more and more frustrated at a lack of game-time it’s a deal that certainly makes sense.
