European giants plot to swipe Liverpool aside in race for Red’s number one target

2017 Champions League finalists Juventus are considering making a move for Southampton want-away defender Virgil Van Dijk, who has been heavily linked with Liverpool during the whole of the summer.

According to The Mirrorthe Serie A champions are plotting to capture the signature of the Holland international after learning the centre-half still wants a move away from St Mary’s following the handing-in of his transfer request in pre-season.

With a move away from the Saints in January very much on the cards, Juventus now have their ears pricked up and will discuss whether to make an enquiry about the player in the new year thus snatching the transfer out of Jurgen Klopp’s hands.

Liverpool, meanwhile, still retain interest in their number one target despite being told no on several occasions by Southampton.

The South-coast club lodged a complaint to the FA over allegations that the Merseyside outfit ‘tapped up’ Van Dijk illegally, although this was later rejected. The relationship between the two side’s has been bitter since.

The Mirror also claim Chelsea will tell Southampton of their interest in the Dutchman if he makes clear he wants to leave in January.

The saga has now turned cold for both Van Dijk and Southampton with the Premier League outfit with-holding a player who doesn’t want to play for them as his value decreases with every match he doesn’t feature in.
