Tottenham injury news: Pochettino confirms setback, explains key absence

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he left defender Ben Davies out against Swansea City on Saturday due to injury.

Spurs were held to a goalless draw by the Swans at Wembley on Saturday evening in a frustrating outing for Pochettino’s men as they lost further ground at the top of the Premier League with another disappointment at their temporary home.

One omission from the line-up stood out in particular, with Davies left out having impressed in recent outings for Tottenham.

However, it’s now been explained that the Welshman picked up a problem in the win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in midweek and so it’s another unwanted fitness setback for Tottenham.

With Danny Rose already sidelined due to injury and still a few weeks away from reaching full fitness, it poses a problem for Spurs moving forward with Heung-Min Son deployed on the left flank on Saturday.

In turn, Pochettino will hope that Davies hasn’t picked up a serious knock and will be able to return for their clash with West Ham United next weekend, with the League Cup meeting with Barnsley in midweek likely to see rotation anyway.
