Chelsea face competition from Premier League rivals in race for £72.9M South American star, player’s wages could prove stumbling point

Chelsea and Everton have shown an interest in signing PSG and Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani after reports emerged that teammate Neymar has demanded the Ligue 1 club sell the forward after the two were involved in a dressing room bust-up following PSG’s 2-0 over Lyon on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.

Cavani, who is valued at £72.9M as per the Telegraph, is reportedly rowing with club-record teammate Neymar over a penalty dispute and a dressing room bust-up that occurred both during and after their side’s 2-0 league win over Lyon on Sunday, with the Brazilian even demanding that Cavani be sold, as reported by the Daily Mail.

As per the Daily Mail, PSG are eager to cool any talk of a rift between the two stars so early in the season, however it is reported that Cavani has previously grown frustrated, after the Uruguayan had to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic during the Swede’s time at the club.

PSG are undergoing pressure to sell some of their higher quality stars in order to comply with FFP, with the French side looking to offload stars Lucas Moura, Julain Draxler and Angel Di Maria in January in order to raise funds, report the Daily Mail, however selling Cavani may be the most difficult of all.

Cavani’s age and high wages may prove to be a stumbling in any deal to sell the star as written by the Daily Mail, as the former Napoli is 30 and on reported wages of £120,000-a-week. The player would also like to be first choice striker wherever he ends up, something he may not get at Chelsea, with the star also wanting Champions League football, something Everton cannot offer the forward this season.

Should Cavani end up being forced out of PSG, it’ll be interesting to see where the South American star ends up.
