Arsenal are set to suffer a blow in their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao ‘keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, after AS reported that the player is keen to stay with the Spanish club.

Kepa is worshipped by fans at the San Mamés, and the player is set to remain as his side’s first choice goalkeeper long into the future due to his impressive league performances.

The Spaniard is out of contract with Bilbao next summer, as reported by AS, which is news that has alerted a number of Europe’s biggest sides, with Spanish news outlet Radio Bilbao, which was re-reported by AS, saying that Napoli, Arsenal and Real Madrid are all interested in the 23-year-old.

Despite this interest in Kepa, Bilbao are confident that the player will stay with the La Liga club, with Jose Angel Ziganda’s side hoping to tie the Spaniard down to a new four-year deal, report AS.

Kepa has made a decent start to life in La Liga so far this season, as the Spain U21’s star has produced two clean sheets in six league appearances. The Spaniard has now kept 10 clean sheets in his 29 La Liga appearances for the club, meaning that he keeps a clean sheet at a ratio of around once every three appearances, which is pretty impressive considering he’s just 23 years old.

Should Bilbao manage to tie Kepa down to a new long term deal, it will come as blow to Arsenal, who may have tried to sign the player should he had rejected a new deal with the Spanish giants.
