Serious concern for Man United as attacking star limps out of Champions League action with knee injury

Marcus Rashford limped out of action during Man United’s Champions League clash with Benfica as the Reds cruised to a 1-0 victory at the Estadio da Luz.

The Englishman gave the Red Devils the lead in the 64th minute from a 40-yard free-kick but later departed the field on the 71st minute with a knee injury to be replaced by Frenchman Anthony Martial.

The 19-year-old was the shining light for the Red Devils during a dull night in Portugal where Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku struggled to threaten the Benfica backline.

Rashford was able to walk off the pitch and even had time to talk to manager Jose Mourinho before he disappeared down the tunnel.

Mourinho later spoke to BT Sport where he confirmed that Rashford had felt something in his knee despite the Portuguese boss assuming it was cramp at first that was troubling the youngster.

Talking to BT Sport, Mourinho added: “It’s something in his knee, I thought it was cramp, a bit of fatigue, but it’s his knee. I hope it’s nothing important.”

Man United travel to Huddersfield on Saturday and will be hoping that Rashford’s knock does not keep him out of the game. Rashford is likely to start on Saturday if fit given his recent form.

Alternatively, summer signing Lukaku has struggled of late after initially a great start to life at Old Trafford. The Belgian was left frustrated at Anfield on Saturday during United’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool and was unable to trouble the Benfica defence tonight in a lackluster performance.
