Man Utd star escapes FA punishment for off-the-ball incident against Huddersfield

Man Utd had a weekend to forget as they fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium, and it could have been worse for one man in particular.

It was a bitterly frustrating afternoon for Jose Mourinho as his men came out second best, and in turn they fell five points adrift of rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

For Anthony Martial, he’ll want to forget his performance as quickly as possible. Aside from being replaced at half-time after enduring a torrid 45 minutes on the pitch, replays suggested that the France international may have kicked out at Tommy Smith off the ball after being caught in a tackle just moments before.

As noted by ESPN’s Rob Dawson in the tweet below, the FA were understood to have looked back at the incident but have decided that they will not take any further action.

Referee Lee Mason missed the incident at the time, but it appears as though the FA have reviewed the footage and believe that the alleged kick is not worth following up.

In turn, Martial will be available for the upcoming game with Swansea City in the League Cup in midweek as well as the big clash with Tottenham next weekend.

However, it will be down to Mourinho to decide whether or not he stays in his starting line-up, or if Marcus Rashford gets the nod instead after impressing having come off the bench at the weekend.
