Man Utd team news: Under-pressure ace to get chance, three more clues to line-up vs Swansea

Man Utd face Swansea City in the League Cup on Tuesday night, and it’s likely to be an opportunity for Jose Mourinho to rotate his team.

The Portuguese tactician was far from happy after his side’s defeat at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and so in turn he’ll be expecting a positive response from his players in midweek.

With a showdown against Tottenham looming at the weekend, he may choose to rest key players, but for those stepping in, it’s a perfect opportunity to prove their worth and compete for a more regular starting berth.

According to ESPN, Luke Shaw is set to fall into that bracket as after being left out of the U23s clash with Liverpool on Monday night, it’s the biggest indication possible that he will likely feature on Tuesday against Swansea instead.

The 22-year-old will be under pressure to produce a decent performance though, as with just one appearance for the senior side so far this season, he’s got to prove his fitness and quality to get back into the side in the league on a regular basis.

Shaw was heavily criticised by supporters after a disappointing outing for the youth team against West Ham United earlier this month, and so he’s seemingly got a long way to go before getting back to his top form.

Meanwhile, ESPN add that Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe and Joel Pereira were also left out against Liverpool, and so that would suggest that Mourinho intends on playing them against Swansea.

Man Utd and Mourinho may have bigger aspirations than the League Cup this season, but ultimately a decent cup run, and a good win especially after the weekend’s result, will be a timely boost for all concerned and it should give an indication of where Shaw is at in terms of his comeback.
