The weekend’s domestic action gets underway with a dose of Friday Night Football and it’s set to be a cracker as Leeds host Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United this evening.
There’s plenty resting on the game at Elland Road with both sides expect to push for promotion this season.
Chris Wilder’s side have enjoyed a flying start to life back in the Championship and could go top of the table with victory at Elland Road. Leeds meanwhile are four points and a place behind Friday’s opponents and head into the game after ending a run of three straight league defeats with victory over Bristol City last weekend.
The Blades will be full of confidence after back to back league wins over Reading and Ipswich, but suffered defeat to Nottingham Forest last time they were on the road.
Stuart Dallas is expected to return for Leeds after missing the last two games due to a family bereavement. But Gaetano Berardi is still serving a three match ban after attempting a head butt on Bristol City’s Matty Taylor last time out.
The hosts will also be without Caleb Ekuban and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
As for the visitors they’ll be without defender Kieron Freeman due to injury and Ched Evans is recovering from ankle surgery. But Chris Wilder could welcome back up to five players including Richard Stearman, Caolan Lvery and Clayton Donaldson.
Billy Sharp is expected to lead the line for Sheffield United, the prolific striker has scored four goals in his last four league starts against Leeds United and he’s 21/10 to score anytime.
Under Chris Wilder Sheffield United have won more games and points than any other English side and are chasing their fifth win in six league matches. But the Blades have a poor record at Elland Road where they have lost seven of their last nine league visits, so victory on Friday will be a huge result.
I expect this to be a game of fine margins, but after last week’s emphatic victory at Bristol City I fancy Leeds to bag all three points and put a dent in the Blades’ promotion charge.
Leeds on the fixed odds home win at 7/5 looks plenty big enough while there will be many taking a nibble on the Leeds -1 handicap win at 3/1.
Both teams are capable of scoring so i’m going with Leeds and BTTS at 7/2 – that looks a stand out price and with a partisan home support the Lilywhites can prevail.
