Liverpool confirmed line-up vs Huddersfield: LFC fans baffled by crucial Klopp call

Liverpool host Huddersfield at Anfield on Saturday, and one selection in particular from Jurgen Klopp has sparked a frustrated reaction from fans.

Dejan Lovren was heavily criticised last weekend after his poor performance in the 4-1 defeat to Tottenham at Wembley.

While supporters and pundits alike weighed in, Klopp himself made the decision to haul the Croatian international off in the first half to avoid further damage from being inflicted.

However, the Liverpool boss has opted to stick by his under-fire centre-half and he starts against Huddersfield hoping to bounce back and make amends.

It remains to be seen whether or not it’s a smart call as ultimately it could go one of two ways. Lovren may prove that he has a strong character and silence the doubters with a top defensive performance, or if his confidence has been knocked by last weekend, this could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Given Liverpool are at home to Huddersfield, they will be expected to dominate possession and take the game to their opponents, but they’ll need a reliable backline to ensure that the visitors don’t pull off another shock after seeing off Man Utd last weekend.

Elsewhere, Daniel Sturridge gets the nod to start up front with Philippe Coutinho out through injury, joining Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane on the sidelines.
