After his heroics in the League Cup earlier this week, Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah is reportedly set to be handed an improved contract.
The 18-year-old came off the bench to score twice against Norwich City in midweek, rescuing the Gunners who had been trailing but eventually advanced to the next round after extra-time.
Evidently, that’s not the only reason as to why Nketiah is going to land a new contract, with Thierry Henry predicting that he will have a bright future ahead of him given his qualities in front of goal, as reported by ESPN.
In turn, it seems as though Arsene Wenger has the same level of faith in him, although naturally he’ll steadily help him progress through the youth ranks with opportunities in the senior squad along the way.
The French tactician has done it on a number of occasions previously as he has shown that he’s not afraid of giving young players a chance to impress, with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Alexi Iwobi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson recent examples.
According to The Sun, he’s ready to secure Nketiah’s long-term future with a new deal worth £15,000-a-week over five years, compared to the £2,000-a-week contract that he’s currently on.
It’s a big show of faith from Arsenal though, and so provided that he does go on to sign the contract, Nketiah will be under pressure to prove that he deserves it by continuing his development at a decent rate.
The early signs are certainly promising though, while Chelsea could be left to rue their potential mistake in letting him go at U14 level.
It could be argued that Arsenal have taken a gamble on Nketiah, but take a step closer to winning big with the best online casino to cash in for yourselves!
