Jose Mourinho hits out at Manchester United fans after win over Tottenham

Mourinho’s not happy with the Old Trafford crowd…

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho always seems to be complaining about something – and now he’s picked a fight with supporters of the Red Devils.

The Portuguese tactician believes that United fans are not giving summer signing Romelu Lukaku enough credit, though he did not go into detail as to what precisely they’ve done to neglect him.

The Belgium international made a fine start at Old Trafford before a recent goal drought, which has seen him fail to find the back of the net in his last five games for the club.

Still, Lukaku does have two assists in that time, including a clever nod-on for Anthony Martial’s winner against Tottenham this weekend.

Mourinho insists he is happy with the 24-year-old’s performances, and has urged the Old Trafford crowd to get behind the front-man.

‘Yeah, I would like the supporters to explain to me why they don’t support him so much,’ Mourinho was quoted on Goal.

‘He gives everything and I think it is not fair when scoring the goal or not scoring the goal makes the whole difference.

‘I don’t think it is fair at all. So I’m a bit disappointed – but not with him. With him very pleased.’

United fans can be a demanding bunch at times after being rather spoiled during the Sir Alex Ferguson years, though there’s little to actually suggest they’ve turned on Lukaku this season.

As ever, this seems like an example of Mourinho deploying his classic tactic of deflecting attention away from himself after an arguably unconvincing display against Spurs and some unsavoury scenes at the end of the game when he appeared to ‘shush’ his doubters, as reported on Sky Sports.
