It was a miserable weekend for Real Madrid supporters, as they saw their team suffer a shock 2-1 defeat at Girona on Sunday to leave their La Liga title hopes in tatters.
10 games into the league campaign, the reigning champions have now won six, drawn two and lost two, leaving them in third place as they’ve been uncharacteristically poor and inconsistent.
They’re now eight points adrift of Barcelona at this early stage in the season, and many feel as though that could be too big a gap to make up even with such a long way to go in the year.
Given the form of their rivals, it’s hard to disagree. While anything can of course still happen, whether it be key injuries or an alarming dip in form, there is still plenty of time to make up the difference.
However, history would suggest that it isn’t a lead that will be easily wiped out, and in turn Real Madrid supporters have painted a gloomy picture after their latest struggles.
It may not be as bad as they suggest to many others, but perhaps their best hope of winning a major trophy this season arguably lies with the Champions League, unless they can now put together an incredible run of form domestically to put the pressure on Barca to maintain their impressive start to the campaign.
We will take another 7 years to win the next league title. #HalaMadrid

8 points behind Barcelona. Not even a collapse by them will hand Real Madrid the title if this is how they play. It’s over. Good night

Let's be clear about one thing – the entirety of Real Madrid today, from the management to the individual performances were shocking.

Well you know La Liga over for us

Yes we lost because of an offside goal but the performance tonight was abysmal. Possibly the worst since Zidane became manager.

Real Madrid will end up without any trophies and Zidane will be sacked as long as a striker isn’t signed in January. My prediction.
