Barcelona’s South American superstar will return to Liverpool in astonishing transfer fears Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi fears that his Barcelona teammate and close friend Javier Mascherano could be on the verge of rejoining his former club Liverpool in a sensational move back to the Premier League.

A report from Italian football outlet CalcioMercato has stated that approaches for the defensive midfielder have been made by Juventus and PSG and that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are the latest to offer their interest in the star that has been heavily linked with a move away from the Nou Camp.

Mascherano famously left Liverpool in the summer of 2010 for a fee of £25m to move to the Spanish giants but could now be set to make an astonishing return to Anfield after seven highly-successful years at the Nou Camp. (Fee per the Guardian.)

The report states that his international teammate Messi is worried that a proposed move for Mascherano back to Anfield makes perfect sense for both parties. Mascherano has struggled recently to maintain consistent game-time in Spain and with Liverpool’s defensive woes it would make perfect sense for the star to return with his quality being needed now more than ever.

The defensive midfielder has of-course enjoyed seven incredibly successful years in Spain where he was won everything there is to win in club football while playing at the Nou Camp. During his time at the club the Argentine has sealed the Spanish league title, domestic cups and the Champions League amongst much more.

While the report may be music to the ears of all Liverpool fans it is certainly not a one horse race. A recent report from the Sun just this week claimed that Mascherano was eyeing a move back to another former club but in the form of River Plate rather than Liverpool.

It remains to be seen where the star’s future lies but it truly does look as though he could be firmly on his way out of the Nou Camp.
