Real Madrid seven-man shortlist: €200m target leads poll, edging out Harry Kane

It seems strange in many ways to suggest that reigning Spanish and European champions Real Madrid possibly need to consider reinforcements.

The La Liga giants enjoyed great success last season under Zinedine Zidane, but they’ve not made the greatest of starts to this campaign as problems have presented themselves.

Los Blancos are eight points adrift of league leaders Barcelona after 11 games, while they took just one point from Tottenham in their back-to-back Champions League meetings which could mean they miss out on top spot in Group H.

Coupled with the departures of key squad players such as James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata this past summer, there is an argument that they could need something extra.

In turn, Mundo Deportivo have presented a list of potential targets with Robert Lewandowski, Antoine Griezmann, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lorenzo Insigne all coming into consideration.

It’s claimed that president Florentino Perez is keen to sign a prolific goalscorer to bolster Zidane’s attacking options with Gareth Bale continuing to struggle with injuries, and for him at least, Tottenham striker Kane is the favourite to arrive at the Bernabeu.

However, the poll held by MD slightly differs from that, as Kane comes in in second place in terms of readers and supporters who have voted on the player who would best fit Real.

At the time of writing, Neymar leads the way with 29.93 percent of the vote, only marginally more popular than Kane who has claimed a 28.03 percent share of the vote.

Bayern’s Lewandowski comes in third, followed by Mbappe and surprisingly Insigne is above Hazard and Griezmann for now.

The poll votes come after Marca had suggested that Neymar was a €200m target for Madrid in the future, and that would certainly be a contentious move given his history with Barcelona.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying what the Brazilian international offers, as he’s made an instant impact at Paris Saint-Germain since his summer move, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists in 12 appearances in all competitions.

It remains to be seen whether or not the poll votes fluctuate moving forward, but it would be a surprise to not see Neymar involved at the top end of the final results as Madrid supporters await to see if a marquee signing arrives next year to give them more hope for the long-term future.
