Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has attempted to throw Barcelona off the scent in terms of pursuing a transfer move for Christian Eriksen.

Speaking at his press conference today, the Argentine tactician responded to Eriksen’s brilliance for Denmark against the Republic of Ireland in their World Cup qualifier playoff.

The 25-year-old has been a key performer for Spurs in recent years, and looks one of Europe’s best attacking midfield players on current form.

Sport recently claimed Barcelona scouted Eriksen in the Champions League, but Pochettino insists he is not a fantastic player but ‘an average player’.

Sorry, Mauricio, we’re not convinced this is going to work, but full marks for effort.

It could get even harder for Tottenham to keep hold of Eriksen, with Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos also said to have been impressed by the player when they met in the Champions League.

According to Diario Gol, Ramos believes Eriksen would be an even more worthwhile addition than Harry Kane.
