Chelsea injury blow: Antonio Conte set to lose attacker for next five games after injury on international duty

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte looks to have been dealt a significant blow up front with the news that Michy Batshuayi could miss the next five games with a foot injury.

According to the London Evening Standard, the 24-year-old sustained the knock on international duty with Belgium, and now leaves Chelsea a little light up top.

Alvaro Morata has largely been first choice when fit this season, but has also had his problems and continues to fully find his feet in the Premier League.

Batshuayi is a useful option off the bench, as highlighted with some important goals for the Blues in his relatively short time at the club.

The Belgian front-man came on as a substitute to net Chelsea’s title-clinching goal away to West Brom last season, and scored a stoppage time winner away to Atletico Madrid in this season’s Champions League.

That is the kind of impact Chelsea could do with as a Plan B, particularly after a recent rocky patch of form.

Conte’s side enjoyed a satisfying 1-0 victory over Manchester United before the international break, but had gone three games without a win prior to that.

Batshuayi’s injury is the latest in a frustrating season for Chelsea, who have also had to cope without key figures like N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard for extended periods.
