Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering a January transfer window raid on Chelsea for unsettled defender David Luiz.

The Portuguese tactician is said to be keeping an eye on Luiz’s situation at Stamford Bridge after his recent axing from the first-team by manager Antonio Conte, according to the Daily Express.

United don’t exactly look short of options in defence at the moment, but the Express claim Mourinho has been impressed by Luiz in his second spell in the Premier League.

The Brazil international rejoined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain last year for what the Express note as a £34million fee, and played a key role in Conte winning the title in his first season in charge.

This is despite previously struggling for the Blues and being sold by Mourinho in the summer of 2014 with one or two signs of bad blood between the pair.

The Express quote Mourinho as saying Luiz would not be missed, while the defender responded by saying his former manager was not ‘special’ in his eyes.

Still, players are professional and there could be some chance of the pair working together again at Old Trafford, with the likes of Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic also putting their difficulties under Mourinho at Chelsea to one side to work well with him again at United.

Could Luiz and Mourinho be reunited at Manchester United in the next transfer window?

Chelsea will surely be wary of selling another big name to the Red Devils after seeing how well Matic has performed since being surprisingly let go in the summer.

The reigning champions are only a point behind United now, though both sides face a big fight to get back in the title race after Manchester City’s flying start.

United will feel they could do with strengthening as much as they can, but Chelsea in turn will surely also look to avoid more sales, particularly of experienced players like Luiz, who is known for being a big character in the dressing room.
