Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are looking to beat Everton to the signing of Middlesborough’s 18-year-old starlet Marcus Tavernier.

The Daily Mail have reported that the Gunners are growing increasingly keen on Tavernier who has impressed for England at U19 level.

Bournemouth and Aston Villa are both also reported to be interested in the youngster who only has one year remaining on his contract at Middlesborough.

Tavernier has made just two appearances for England at U19 level but the winger has impressed in both. The star who usually plays his football on the left flank caught the eyes of many clubs after his display for Boro against Bournemouth in the League Cup. Further, the teenager also scored the winner against Sunderland this season in a huge Championship clash.

Arsenal have a history of plucking young English talents from smaller teams in an attempt to develop and mould them into the players Wenger wants. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott were both bought by Wenger from Southampton at extremely young ages with Rob Holding and Callum Chambers also having been acquired at a young age by the Gunners.

It remains to be seen where Tavernier’s future will be but he is certainly a name to look out for and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the Premier League very soon.
