Jose Mourinho sets sights on 58-goal marksman, Man Utd already in talks over target

After undoubtedly being made aware of his form for Celtic over the past 18 months, Man Utd are reportedly keen on striker Moussa Dembele.

It’s been quite the spell for the former Fulham man since his move last year, as he notched 32 goals in 49 appearances last season, while he’s got seven in 14 so far this year.

That takes his overall tally since making his senior debut to an impressive 58 goals in 127 games, and so it seems as though that form in front of goal has attracted the attention of Man Utd.

According to L’Equipe, as reported by The Sun, talks are already underway between the two parties over a move to Old Trafford, and so it remains to be seen whether or not a deal can be wrapped up as Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be desperate to keep him.

A whole host of other Premier League sides are also mentioned as having an interest in the 21-year-old, but it sounds as though United are looking to steal a march on the competition.

It’s clear why, as although Mourinho has the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to offer long-term options, the pair have been deployed in wide positions.

In turn, that leaves Romelu Lukaku as his main option through the middle up front, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic, although having recently returned from injury to now play an important role for Mourinho, turned 36 last month and may not have too much longer at the highest level.

He’ll undoubtedly contest that, but Man Utd do have to consider the long-term future and given his form for Celtic, Dembele wouldn’t be a bad choice at all to combine the pace, movement and prolific finishing with the likes of Rashford and Martial moving forward.
