Sergio Ramos warns Real Madrid against signing Chelsea transfer target

Sergio Ramos is reportedly unconvinced by the prospect of Real Madrid signing Inter Milan striker and rumoured Chelsea transfer target Mauro Icardi.

The Argentina international has been linked as a top target for Antonio Conte by Gol Digital, but it seems there is also the prospect of some competition from Real Madrid.

Still, Diario Gol claim Ramos is concerned by Real pursuing Icardi, who has something of a reputation for being a troublemaker off the pitch, despite his quality on it.

The 24-year-old has a superb record of 14 goals in 15 games in all competitions so far this season, showing why a growing number of elite clubs are being linked with him.

Still, Icardi would likely be a direct rival for Cristiano Ronaldo’s place up front as well, with Diario Gol claiming Ramos is worried about how this might affect the Portuguese superstar.

This is a slightly baffling situation at Real Madrid, who will surely have to replace Ronaldo at some point, particularly after his severe slump in form this season.

The former Manchester United man is set to turn 33 in the new year, and only has one La Liga goal to his name this term, despite continuing to do the business in the Champions League.

Icardi could be a fine signing to help improve on the misfiring pair of Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, but Diario Gol’s report suggests they’ll potentially miss out on the player largely through an attempt to appease Ronaldo.

All in all, this looks like good news for Chelsea if they continue to pursue their interest.
