Two of the Premier League’s form teams go head to head at Anfield later this evening as Liverpool host champions Chelsea in what is set to be a cracker.
Both sides recorded solid league wins last weekend as Liverpool comfortably beat Southampton 3-0 and the Blues put four past West Brom, which resulted in Tony Pulis losing his job so there could be plenty of goals around as both managers look to keep in touch with Manchester City at the top.
The Reds, who are looking for their fourth league victory on the bounce, have kept seven clean sheets in their last eight league games at Anfield. But defensive frailties still remain after squandering a three goal lead in Sevilla on Tuesday.
Chelsea meanwhile secured a spot in the Champions League knockout stages with a convincing victory over minnows Qarabag.
But they return to Premier League action knowing they have not beaten Klopp’s side in the league for over three years, can Conte stop the rot?
- Back Salah & Morata to score anytime and Emre Can to be carded at 14/1 ->
- Back Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 13/5 ->
Joel Matip is expected to miss the game for Liverpool due to a thigh injury but Adam Lallana could return after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. As for Chelsea they’ll be without the injured Victor Moses and Michy Batshauyi.
Conte had the luxury of replacing Eden Hazard early on against Qarabag, so he should be fresh for the trip to Anfield. He’s 9/4 to score anytime.
Despite being away from home Chelsea are slight favourites for this one. They’ve recorded four clean sheets in their last five matches, but will be up against the red hot Mo Salah.
The King Of Egypt has, arguably, been the signing of the season so far bagging 9 Premier League goals and two assists. He’s a tasty looking 6/1 to open the scoring.
Defeat for either side on Saturday will all but end their already slim title hopes with Man City running away with it after just twelve games.
Will Liverpool run riot or will Conte produce an inspired masterclass?
There are a couple of carrot dangling punts that I like the look of.
Paddy Power go 14/1 that M.Salah, Morata score ant anytime and Emre Can to get carded. Considering Salah has smashed four in his last two games and Morata two in two, this looks a touch of value and should give us a run for our money.
Emre Can is sure to be amongst it in what could turn into a feisty affair with plenty to play for.
For a safer looking punt I’m going to put my neck on the line and back Liverpool to get the win and BTTS at 11/4 with Paddy Power.
Klopp rarely loses to top six sides and I expect them to respond after the disappointment in Spain.
