Jose Mourinho persuades Real Madrid star to join Manchester United after lengthy transfer talks and personal pledge

Manchester United look to have taken a step closer to sealing the transfer of Raphael Varane after lengthy talks between Jose Mourinho and the player have persuaded him to seal a transfer away.

The France international is an old favourite of Mourinho, having made his breakthrough under the Portuguese at Real Madrid earlier in his career.

Don Balon now claim Mourinho is eager to work with Varane again, with the Red Devils boss spending the last few months contacting the player about joining him at Old Trafford.

The report claims Varane feels undervalued at Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane, while Mourinho has made a personal vow to make him a key member of his team if he joins.

The 24-year-old has shone in La Liga but looks like a player who could make the transition to English football with some success.

A strong and intelligent player, Varane arguably deserves more playing time at Real, with the club likely to regret losing him if he ends up being a big success elsewhere.

United could be lining up a number of raids on Real Madrid, with Don Balon claiming Mourinho is also interested in attacking midfielder Marco Asensio.

Still, Varane looks a more realistic target as Don Balon claim he’s decided to leave Madrid after seemingly having his head turned by talks with Mourinho.
