Barcelona could yet snub the chance to seal the transfers of either Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho or Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil and move for Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen instead.
Don Balon suggest the Denmark international is now Barca’s priority target for that creative midfield role, as they have been impressed by his superb recent form in the Premier League and Champions League.
Despite previous links with Coutinho and Ozil, Don Balon claim the Catalan giants could now favour Eriksen over the duo, which is certainly some compliment to the former Ajax man.
Tottenham will not want to lose Eriksen after the way he’s pulled the strings for them this season and last, with the 25-year-old surely vital to any hopes they have of finally winning major silverware.
Spurs have lost some star names to bigger clubs in the recent past, with Gareth Bale and Luka Modric both being poached by Real Madrid, while Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick also both left for Manchester United at the peak of their powers.
Tottenham are a more competitive outfit these days under Mauricio Pochettino, but it seems clear that their remarkable rise has only served to make Europe’s elite take more notice of their talent.
