As ever, it was another eventful weekend in the Premier League and Garth Crooks is back to cause a stir with his BBC team of the week which includes Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City stars.
Starting at the back, West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster gets the nod after his display in helping his side secure an impressive point away at Tottenham, with a save to deny Heung-Min Son standing out in particular.
He’s got a back four in front of him, which differs from Crooks’ usual 3-4-3 system, with the ever-reliable Cesar Azpilicueta of Chelsea joined by Lewis Dunk, Vincent Kompany and Ryan Bertrand.
With regards to the Man City stalwart, Pep Guardiola will be desperate for him to stay fit and avoid injuries, as aside from the fact that they’re a much better side with him in it, John Stones’ injury makes it a complicated situation for the Spanish tactician.
In midfield, Crooks has gone with a quartet and it’s no surprise that Liverpool magic man Mohamed Salah is back in the mix after he scored against his old club at the weekend.
That’s now 15 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions since his summer move from Roma, and there’s no doubt that he’s quickly establishing himself as the goalscoring talisman for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Will Hughes gets a shout after his performance in Watford’s impressive 3-0 win away at Newcastle United, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek continues to impress in his loan spell at Crystal Palace as Raheem Sterling completes the midfield after his decisive performance in Man City’s win over Huddersfield Town.
The 22-year-old is showing a consistency about his game this season, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists in 17 appearances, and Guardiola will hope for more moving forward as he has seemingly helped him reach a new level already.
Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero complete the line-up in a dangerous-looking attack, with both men key for their respective sides this past weekend.
There might be a few others aggrieved to have missed out on this occasion, but it’s a solid XI from Crooks this week as he has ultimately picked key players who played prominent roles in positive results.
The lack of Arsenal and Man Utd players may earn him some stick from those respective fanbases after both won at the weekend, but it’s hard to disagree with too much in a well-balanced team of the week.
