Lionel Messi gives green light for Barcelona raid on La Liga rivals, will leave Cristiano Ronaldo fuming

Valencia ace Goncalo Guedes has been enjoying an impressive season to date, and reports claim it’s been enough to convince Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

The 20-year-old joined Los Che this past summer, and has gone on to score three goals and provide five assists in 11 La Liga appearances to play a key role in Valencia’s surprise run to sit in second place after 13 outings.

In turn, according to Don Balon, as re-reported by The Daily Star, that led to interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid, but while Cristiano Ronaldo was keen to see his Portuguese compatriot join him at the Bernabeu, it’s claimed that Messi needed convincing.

The persuading factor arrived at the weekend, as per the report, as it’s suggested that Guedes convinced Messi with his display in Valencia’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona.

It seems to be a common theme in Spain with the two giants that Messi and Ronaldo hold significant power in the transfer strategy at their respective clubs, which seems strange.

However, there’s no argument against them deserving it, especially for what they’ve given to the clubs over the years as well as wanting to be aware of how Barca and Madrid intend on remaining competitive as they enter the latter stages of their respective careers.

As per Don Balon, Ronaldo will be left furious if Barcelona beat Madrid to the signing of Guedes, as he wants him to be a club teammate as well as linking up with him for Portugal, but Zinedine Zidane isn’t convinced.

Should a move materialise, it will be a huge shame for Valencia, as after years of struggling they have mounted a welcome fightback this year and to lose a key player to a direct rival would be a blow, albeit it may result in good business depending on how high Guedes is valued now.
