Real Madrid president sets sights on £179m Manchester United transfer target to replace influential star

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly on the lookout for new signings in midfield for the next two transfer windows, which could spell bad news for Tottenham and Manchester United.

According to Don Balon, Perez believes his club may need to replace the under-performing star Toni Kroos, who has not made a strong start to the season despite being a key player since his arrival at the Bernabeu in 2014.

Another report from Don Balon yesterday claimed Manchester United were plotting a possible £179million bid for Tottenham’s Dele Alli, but the Spanish source’s latest update list him as a priority for Perez.

They also claim PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot is a possibility, though United will be concerned that a superb potential signing may get away from them.

Spurs are likely to do all they can to avoid losing such an important player to one of their main Premier League title rivals, having been raided by United on a number of occasions in the past.

Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov left White Hart Lane for Old Trafford at the height of their powers and became key players for the Red Devils, and Alli would arguably be an even bigger loss.
