Chelsea handed shock chance to land game-changing £54m January signing

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had his troubles this past month, and speculation is linking him with a move to Chelsea.

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the top marksmen in Europe, scoring 137 goals in 208 games for Dortmund, with 40 in 46 games last season, while his tally this year currently stands at 17 in 19 outings as he continues to prove his class.

In turn, after recently being suspended by the Bundesliga outfit and handed a £54m price-tag with a view of an exit, as per The Sun, it would come as no surprise to see clubs from around Europe queueing up to land his signature and sign a world-class player who can add a prolific edge up front if he is indeed available.

Time will tell if Peter Bosz will allow the problem to escalate into a sale, but according to The Mirror, Chelsea will have a surprise opportunity to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window with the signing of the Gabon international.

Antonio Conte is certainly light in that department, as aside from summer signing Alvaro Morata, he only really has Michy Batshuayi as an alternative in terms of an out-and-out striker, and so he could certainly do with reinforcements arriving to strengthen his squad.

Morata has made a fine start to life in England, with nine goals and four assists in 18 appearances so far this season, but Conte can’t realistically continue to rely on him to deliver goals consistently all season with Chelsea still battling on various fronts.

As a result, the signing of Aubameyang would be huge, as although the above report would suggest there are disciplinary concerns with his suspension and sending off at the weekend, there’s no denying the quality that he brings on the pitch and Chelsea would surely welcome another prolific option up front in what would be a surprise coup given how crucial Aubameyang has been to Dortmund in recent seasons.
