Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho prepared to u-turn on transfer plans for exciting reason

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly prepared to cool his interest in the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale after the recent form of Anthony Martial.

According to the Independent, the Red Devils boss is hugely impressed by the improvement shown by the young forward this season after the two seemed to get off to a rocky start last year.

Martial exploded onto the scene when he first joined United from Monaco in 2015, playing a key role in the side under previous manager Louis van Gaal.

Mourinho, however, didn’t give Martial as many opportunities last season, and the Frenchman’s confidence certainly seemed to take a hit as he failed to make a real impact whenever he was on the pitch.

Now, however, Martial’s exciting displays this season look to have done enough to convince United not to bother strengthening out wide, despite it previously being a priority for Mourinho, according to the Independent.

The report states Mourinho was ready to consider swapping Martial for Inter Milan wide-man Ivan Perisic in the summer, but the 21-year-old has now made that place in the side his own.

Martial scored again in the win over Watford on Tuesday night, and has a total of eight goals and four assists so far this season.

Griezmann may have suitors in Barcelona anyway, according to Don Balon, while Bale has also been linked with his former club Tottenham in another report by Don Balon.

Mourinho has a reputation over his career for favouring big-name signings over developing youth, so Martial has done tremendously well to cement his place so firmly in the Portuguese’s plans.
