Real Madrid star and former Tottenham star Luka Modric has been accused of defrauding £762,000 and could face serious criminal action.

The Sun have cited a report from Spanish news website El Confidencial that suggests Spanish prosecutors are accusing Modric of hiding £762,000 in a Luxembourg account.

Further, the report cites an article from Spanish newspaper E Mundo that claims the Croatian star protected the money between 2013 and 2014 that he had earned from his image rights.

While reports of tax dodging is nothing new amongst the wealthy stars of the 21st century it is certainly a surprise to see Modric involved.

The Croatian is often regarded as a very quiet personality ever since he caught the eyes of the football world during his time in England playing for Tottenham.

The Real Madrid star has recently established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the world in recent years and has been influential in the past few trophy-decorated seasons for Real.

Modric signed from Tottenham to Real Madrid in December 2012 for a fee of £33m (as per the previously mentioned report) and has since won almost every major competition in club football.

The midfielder has secured three Champions League trophies while paying in the Spanish capital and has been influential in arguably Real’s most successful team in the last 20 years.

While it remains unclear whether Modric will be prosecuted, this story is sure to rumble on into the future.
