Chelsea boss Antonio Conte responds to David Luiz transfer rumours, confirms if he’s really injured

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has refused to put a timeline on David Luiz’s return to the team as he insists he’s out with an injury.

This is despite footage from Chelsea’s YouTube channel showing the Brazilian seemingly taking part in training in what appears to be a recent session.

According to the Daily Express, Manchester United are interested in Luiz as he no longer looks part of Conte’s plans after missing a number of recent games.

Luiz was not initially injured as he watched the win over Manchester United from the stands, but has since had apparent problems with his knee.

Conte insisted that is still the case in his latest press conference, saying: ‘Luiz and (Charly) Musonda are out (for Newcastle). Batshuayi and Kenedy have just started to work with us. They need a bit of time to find the best physical condition.

‘Now he (Luiz) is having treatment on his knee.

Conte added it’s ‘not simple’to say how long the Brazil international will be out for, and responded to transfer speculation surrounding the player by saying: ‘I must be honest, I don’t read it.

‘I don’t have time to read it because we’re playing every three days. My focus is on the pitch, to prepare my team in the right way. There is speculation in this period – we passed from my sacking to Madrid!’
