‘I still get nightmares!’ – Rio Ferdinand reveals the terror of playing against Chelsea star

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has joked that he still gets nightmares about playing against Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.

The former England defender was speaking on punditry duty with BT Sport, and was asked by host Gary Lineker about how he used to cope with the Belgian winger.

In fairness, Hazard has made many top defenders look silly in his time, as he’s established himself as one of the top attacking players in Europe since moving to Chelsea in 2012.

The 26-year-old continues to shine for this Blues side this season, leading Lineker to question his guests about how best to deal with him.

Ferdinand was one of the best defenders in the world at his peak, but admitted he didn’t have much of an answer when it came to thwarting an attacking talent like Hazard.

‘I didn’t (enjoy playing against Hazard), I still remember and I still get nightmares,’ Ferdinand said.

‘I used to just be happy he was staying wide at that point… under (Jose) Mourinho he stayed very much on the left-hand side so didn’t really come into my area which was a blessing.

‘But now we’re seeing him all over the front-line – he’s fantastic to watch and he’s the man that really makes this Chelsea team tick.’
