Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois is refusing to indulge in discussions regarding a contract extension at Stamford Bridge amid interest from Real Madrid.
A report from the Sun has today stated that the Belgian number one is simply dismissing any contract talks and will instead walkaway on a free when his contract is run down in 2019.
A further report from respected Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has stated that Courtois is being closely monitored in the Spanish capital with further uncertainty being cast over his future at Stamford Bridge every day.
Courtois has of-course spent time in Madrid perviously. Upon his initial arrival to Chelsea from Genk the star was sent out on loan to Real’s rivals Atletico between 2011-2014. The Belgian amassed over one hundred appearances in all competitions while representing Atletico and appeared to settle in with comfort in the Spanish capital.
Courtois not only won a Europa League title while at Atletico, but he also reached a Champions League final during his last season at the club.
A separate report from the Sun earlier in the week also linked the Belgian to Real Madrid stating that Chelsea and Antonio Conte would rather see their goalkeeper leave on a free to Real in 2019 than cashing in on the star next summer but having to see him depart a year earlier.
Courtois’ future certainly looks in jeopardy but one thing that is for certain is that Chelsea will attempt to cling on to the talented star’s services for as long as possible even if that requires him leaving for a reduced value further down the line.
