Chelsea make decision on future of Manchester United transfer target ahead of January

Chelsea have reportedly decided they won’t be selling Willian amid rumours linking him with a transfer to Manchester United this January.

According to Le 10 Sport, this also means the Blues won’t be pushing ahead with a move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura, who could be heading to the Chinese Super League.

The French source explains that Willian’s fellow Brazilian has been considered to replace him, with the Manchester Evening News recently claiming Jose Mourinho had been in touch with his old club about snapping him up.

Still, Willian has been a key player for Chelsea down the years and his recent form has perhaps persuaded Antonio Conte to stick with him for a little longer.

The 29-year-old has five goals and two assists for Conte’s side this season, despite not always being a regular starter.

Chelsea could do with that kind of experienced impact player on the bench, with both his quality and work rate making him an unsurprising rumoured target for United.

Chelsea may have dodged a bullet regarding Moura anyway, with the 25-year-old proving mostly inconsistent and unreliable in much of his time at PSG so far.

The Brazil international is now further down in the club’s pecking order with the summer arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in attack.
