£45m Man Utd target lined up as possible January reinforcement

Man Utd could seek to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, and Inter winger Ivan Perisic is still reportedly an option.

United trail rivals Man City by eight points heading into Sunday’s Manchester derby, and so naturally Jose Mourinho will be desperate to claim victory and close the gap.

In order to push on and have a strong chance of securing major honours in the second half of the season though, he may request signings in January, although the addition of Perisic would arguably be a questionable one.

According to The Sun, Perisic moving to Old Trafford is still a possibility in the New Year after he was linked with a move in the summer as United could reignite their interest, but they would have to meet his £45m asking price.

With the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan already all pushing for a place in the starting line-up to support the main striker, do Man Utd really need another wide player?

While there’s no denying that the Croatian international is a quality player, it just remains questionable as to whether he’s a necessary signing for the club.

The 28-year-old has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 15 Serie A games so far this season, as he continues to play a fundamental role in Luciano Spalletti side’s push for the title.

His movement, pace, worth ethic and eye for goal would all make him a great signing for Man Utd, but adding further competition for places in that department may not be such a wise move with other areas such as left-back arguably worth prioritising given the shortage of a long-term option there.
