Chelsea have reportedly failed with a £22million bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey as they search for a potential replacement for Real Madrid target Eden Hazard.

The Daily Mail claim the Blues have seen an offer for the Jamaican starlet ‘rebuffed’ by the Bundesliga giants, who are understandably not keen to sell for the moment.

Bailey joined Leverkusen midway through last season after impressing at Belgian side Genk, with the Mail claiming Chelsea have long been monitoring his progress.

Manchester United and Liverpool are also mentioned in the report as potential suitors for the talented 20-year-old, and the Red Devils in particular could be pleased to hear of Chelsea’s struggles to land him.

Jose Mourinho’s side were badly lacking in flair and spark in attack in their weekend defeat to Manchester City, and could benefit from a signing like Bailey to give them more up front.

Romelu Lukaku has been on a recent barren streak in front of goal, and needs more service after looking horribly isolated against City on Sunday.

Bailey could be a player to make a difference, though it remains to be seen how much of a priority he is for Mourinho’s side at present.

Still, reports elsewhere from the Independent have claimed United are looking at attacking alternatives after appearing to miss out on the transfer of Antoine Griezmann in that area.

Chelsea, meanwhile, may be fearing for Hazard’s Stamford Bridge future with latest reports from Don Balon stating Zinedine Zidane is urging Real Madrid to move for him next summer.
