Barcelona remain coy amid talk of edging closer to €100m signing

Barcelona sporting director Guillermo Amor has refused to give anything away when asked about a reported meeting with Antoine Greizmann.

As noted by Mundo Deportivo, it was claimed that the Atletico Madrid star’s family met with Barca president Josep Bartomeu for dinner, where they discussed an agreement on personal terms with the expectation that the Catalan giants will pay his €100m release clause.

The 26-year-old continues to be the subject of plenty transfer speculation as his future remains uncertain, but it appears as though Barcelona aren’t willing to discuss the matter or give anything away with the media in the lead up to next summer.

That was the message from Amor at least, who remained extremely coy when asked about the possible signing of Griezmann amid the latest rumours.

“If Bartomeu met with Griezmann’s family as the newspapers say, then there may well have been an approach,” Amor said, as quoted by The Express. “Though, I don’t know anything for sure.

“There is a good relationship, there can also be comfortable conversations.”

Griezmann endured a slow start to the campaign but has picked up slightly in recent weeks to take his tally to seven goals and five assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.

While there’s no denying that he possesses world-class talent given his impact for club and country over the last two or three years, his potential signing does still present a possible problem to Barcelona.

While he will undoubtedly expect to be a regular starter, Ernesto Valverde will also have to consider Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele. Unless he can find a system that allows him to field all four, it could lead to some difficult questions being asked with Suarez arguably the most at risk given his age, poor form early on this season and with Griezmann playing in the same position.
