Man Utd to launch staggering £60m January bid to address key Mourinho issue

Man Utd are reportedly set to try and strengthen their squad next month, with Juventus left-back Alex Sandro among their top targets.

The Red Devils have had trouble at left-back, with Jose Mourinho trying various options in that position with the likes of Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw all getting a shot.

Ashley Young has even filled in and done a commendable job, but they’ve yet to find a long-term solution and that could force Man Utd to look to the transfer market.

According to The Mirror, United will make a £60m bid for Sandro in the January transfer window. That’s £5m less than what Chelsea bid for the Brazilian defender this past summer, but given how he has disappointed with his form this season, it’s claimed that will be reflected in his new valuation which is still a significant fee for a defender.

Antonio Conte will likely still be interested as he still needs to add a left-back to his squad at Stamford Bridge given the over-reliance on Marcos Alonso, and so with news that Man Utd are launching a bid, perhaps that will spark Chelsea back into life too.

While the report notes that Matteo Darmian could be sold and Danny Rose is an alternative for both United and Chelsea, should the former complete the signing of Sandro, that will surely be a huge knock on Shaw who has failed to convince since his move from Southampton in 2014.

As per BBC Sport, United spent £27m on the talented youngster, but a combination of injuries and poor form have seen him struggle. There were arguably more positive signs given he started against CSKA Moscow and Bournemouth in quick succession this month, but the Sandro signing would be a major blow to his hopes of regular football.
