Raheem Sterling continued a hugely impressive run last night as he fired in Manchester City’s winning goal against Newcastle to seal yet another Premier League win.
The league leaders have now won 18 in a row in the top flight, extending their record after eclipsing Arsenal’s previous best of 14 earlier this season.
Sterling’s goal also fired City 15 points clear of nearest rivals Manchester United, who seem to be doing their bit to help City wrap up the title as quickly as possible after dropping four points in their last two games against Leicester City and Burnley.
@sterling7 scored his 5th match winning PL goal of the season this evening.

Worth 15pts, the same as City’s lead over 2nd place Utd.— Graeme Le Saux (@graemelesaux14) December 27, 2017
Remarkably, however, Sterling has now scored five winning goals in the league for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, so he’s been worth precisely 15 points to the team.
Or, in other words, the England international is the sole reason for City’s 15-point lead over United at the top.
It’s a simplistic way of looking at it, but there’s some degree of truth in it as Sterling seems to become an increasingly important player for Guardiola.
The 23-year-old is enjoying the most prolific campaign of his career with 17 goals under his belt already, and three of his winning strikes have come later than the 80th minute for City this season.
That’s the kind of impact City will have wanted from the talented youngster when they signed him from Liverpool, and that faith finally seems to be paying off.
