It’s arguably a little dramatic from Martin Keown, but the BT Sport pundit believes that Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho has a serious problem on his hands.
United were held to a disappointing and very frustrating goalless draw by Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday, as they are likely to lose further ground in the Premier League title race, while it’s fast becoming the least of their problems.
With Chelsea leapfrogging them into second place at the weekend, Liverpool are just three points behind them now with Tottenham seven adrift as a fight for a top-four spot could be an actual scenario they’re involved in again.
Having gone on a four-game winless streak in all competitions to end 2017, it’s not a great time for Man Utd or Mourinho, and Keown believes it could be pretty serious.
In his defence, he made it clear before he started making his point that it wasn’t a case of just being an ex-Arsenal player having a go at Man Utd when they’re down, but in his opinion, as he told BT Sport in the video clip below, he thinks Mourinho has ‘lost the players’.
That comes from the attitude of the team and approach to the game against Southampton, and in fairness with things going the way they are, it’s hardly a ridiculous statement to make.
Nevertheless, it could also just be a prolonged dip in form that they’ll get over as soon as next week, but Mourinho and Man Utd know they need to react and improve quickly.
“I think he’s lost the players. I didn’t sense any fight from the players.” ?
