Calls for Ross Barkley Chelsea transfer to be investigated by the FA

Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson has called for the Ross Barkley Chelsea transfer to be investigated by the Football Association and says he’ll be writing to the FA about the deal.

The former Everton midfielder completed a transfer to Stamford Bridge yesterday in what BBC Sport reported as a £15million deal, just months after a summer switch fell through.

Barkley looks a good signing by the Blues, but Anderson believes there is clearly something dodgy going on due to the strange circumstances surrounding the initial collapse of the deal.

BBC Sport claim Barkley turned down a move to Chelsea late on in the summer, but Anderson appears to have questioned some of the forces at play as he later ended up joining on the cheap, despite not playing for Everton this season.

The Liverpool mayor tweeted: ‘I will be writing to .@premierleague & .@FA (sic) calling for investigation into the circumstances around the transfer of Ross Barkley between Everton and Chelsea. Agent pulls transfer on deadline day of £35 million doesn’t play again transfer 4 months later £20 million.’

It is unclear if Anderson is aware of anything else going on behind the scenes, but it seems this is a simple case of a player’s transfer value falling due to being closer to the end of his contract.
