Arsenal want £30m for bit-part ace, two PL rivals prepare for January battle

Arsenal have some lofty demands for Theo Walcott, but interest is reportedly building with Everton and Southampton keen.

The 28-year-old has never really arguably reached his peak, as after joining the Gunners in 2005, he’s only had one campaign in which he’s managed to score more than 20 goals.

That was in the 2012/13 season, while he came close last year with 19 goals in 37 appearances. This season has been a different story though, as he’s been left frustrated with a lack of playing time and that in turn has seemingly led to the speculation surrounding his future.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton have joined Southampton in the race to sign him, but Arsenal are looking for something around the £30m mark and so it could prove problematic for either side to prise him away from the Emirates.

Given the statistics above, it’s questionable as to whether Walcott is even worth that much, but it remains to be seen whether or not an interested party is willing to get close to those demands.

In his defence, he has rarely been given a chance to lead the line for Arsenal in a preferred position up top, as he has continuously been pushed out to the flank where he is a threat. Coupled with a lack of playing time now, it looks as though an exit is the best solution but time will tell if a deal can be done this month.

Arsenal will also have to be wary of losing other key players on expiring contracts at the end of the season including the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, and so getting £30m for Walcott would certainly help them replace key individuals moving forward.
