Infuriated Lionel Messi not impressed with Barcelona transfer plan

Given their transfer work this month, we’d surely be forgiven for assuming that Lionel Messi is happy with Barcelona’s moves in the market so far.

The Catalan giants have confirmed the arrivals of Philippe Coutinho and Yerry Mina, addressing key issues in the current squad and putting the building blocks in place for the long-term future at the same time.

However, according to Don Balon, as re-reported by The Express, there is a particular part of Barcelona’s plan that Messi isn’t happy with.

That’s the bit that involves replacing Luis Suarez with Ajax starlet Kasper Dolberg.

In the club’s defence, they will have to consider a replacement for Suarez sooner rather than later, as he prepares to turn 31 later this month.

While he’s still seemingly got plenty left in the tank, as evidenced by his tally of 11 goals in 23 appearances so far this season, he has had his goal droughts and struggles too which may well have raised question marks over whether or not that is an area of the Barcelona squad that could be strengthened.

However, not for the first time, reports in Spain, specifically Don Balon, are claiming that Messi doesn’t want to see his teammate and close friend replaced any time soon.

If accurate, whether the Argentine icon should have such a say in the club’s transfer matters is up for debate, but considering what he’s given to the Blaugrana since joining their youth ranks, he perhaps deserves some sway as he’ll want to be sure that they’ll remain competitive heading into the latter stages of his career.

Messi has scored 527 goals in 609 appearances for the La Liga giants, winning eight La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies to name but a few.

Whether he has a say or not, the current formula is working pretty well under Ernesto Valverde based on their league position and all-round results so far, and so perhaps there is no rush to replace Suarez and in turn avoid the risk of a furious Messi being left unimpressed, as per the report.
