Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly announced the transfer of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi after his side’s latest slip-up.

Los Blancos drew 2-2 with Numancia in the Copa del Rey last night, prompting Perez to inform his squad he’d sealed the signing of Icardi, according to Don Balon.

It is unclear when Real expect Icardi to arrive, but Perez is supposedly determined to land the Argentina international in the summer if a deal cannot be done this January, according to Don Balon.

Still, it remains to be seen if a deal is as close as Perez is alleged to have claimed, with recent speculation also linking the 24-year-old with big names in the Premier League.

Gianluca Di Marzio linked the £97million-rated attacker with Arsenal this week, while a previous report from Don Balon linked him with Manchester United.

As well as that, the Sun mentioned Chelsea as potential suitors earlier in the season, and it’s clear Icardi could do a job for any of these sides.

The South American has been in lethal form in Serie A this season and looks like he could be an upgrade on any one of Karim Benzema, Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata or Alexandre Lacazette.

It remains to be seen if Real can secure this signing this January, or if there is still hope of English clubs luring him over to these shores.

Still, it my be that there’s something to Perez’s words, with Diario Gol recently claiming Icardi had passed a medical ahead of completing a move to the Bernabeu.
