Real Madrid devise special plan to beat Manchester United & Arsenal to Chelsea transfer raid

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly has a special plan in place to seal the signing of Chelsea defender David Luiz by the end of the January transfer window.

According to Don Balon, the Real Madrid chief will leave it late before moving for the Brazil international, who is no longer a regular under Antonio Conte and who is looking for an exit.

Don Balon note that Perez has tried this tactic before with Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, though on that occasion it did not work.

The logic in this thinking seems to be that by moving late for Luiz, Chelsea would be under more pressure to sell an unhappy player for a reduced fee more to Real’s liking.

The report suggests Perez has the deal more or less sewn up and is just waiting for the right moment to complete things, which looks like being a blow to Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Daily Express have linked Luiz as a shock target for the Gunners recently, while a previous report from the Express also suggested he could be eyed by United.

Both sides have their own issues over both quality and depth in defence, and on his day the Brazil international is one of the best in the business, even if he has lost his place in Conte’s side this season.
