Liverpool are reportedly still in with a shout of securing a deal for Schalke and Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka, who was thought to be joining Bayern Munich.
This is according to the Mirror, who state that the Reds believe that the 22-year-old has yet to sign a deal with any club, and that reports in the player’s home country of Germany have recently stated that the midfielder had agreed a deal to join Bayern Munich, as the player is out of contract in the summer according to Sky Sports.
The news outlet are also stating that despite these reports, the club and the player’s representatives have made talks, and that the Merseryside club have been told that they still have a chance of signing the player.
The Mirror are also reporting that the fact that Jurgen Klopp is currently Reds boss has attracted the eye of Goreztka, meaning that the German’s influence could play a fairly significant part in any deal for the midfielder.
Since joining Schalke from fellow German side VFL Bochum in the summer of 2013, Goretzka has managed to impress fans with his performances and ability.
In 130 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, the 22-year-old has managed to amass a record of 19 goals and 13 assists, a decent return for a player of his age.
So far this season, Goretzka has been in good form, scoring four goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances for his side.
For Germany, the midfielder has also managed to leave an impressionable mark, with the Schalke ace having managed to bag six goals in 12 appearances for Die Mannschaft since his debut in 2014.
Throughout his career so far, Goretzka has proved to fans that he is able to play in a variety of positions, with the player having been deployed all through the centre of the pitch, and even as a right and left midfielder on occasions.
