Arsenal edge closer to £45m signing after talks on Sunday, PL star also eyed as key exit expected in ’48 hours’

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has conceded that Alexis Sanchez could be set for an imminent exit, but it’s not all doom and gloom for supporters.

The 29-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season, at which point he’ll become a free agent in the summer.

In order to avoid losing him for nothing, the Gunners had the opportunity to cash in this month, and it appears as though that is what is going to happen with The Guardian noting that Wenger has all-but admitted defeat in trying to keep him at the Emirates.

With an exit possible in the ‘next 48 hours’, as per the veteran tactician, and Man Utd heavily linked with a swoop for the Chilean international, Arsenal will be in need of a major boost especially after their defeat at Bournemouth this weekend raised further doubts over their ability to finish in the top four this season.

In order to avoid slipping further adrift in the second half of the campaign, new arrivals will be needed, particularly if Sanchez does complete a move away from north London, as that is a hugely important figure to lose and he needs to be replaced with quality to fill the void.

As per the Guardian, Arsenal are set to splash out £45m to sign Bordeaux star Malcom, as it’s reported that discussions were held on Sunday over personal terms. Meanwhile, Man Utd misfit Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also linked with a move to join the Gunners as he continues to struggle at Old Trafford.

There’s quite the contrast between the pair, as Malcom has attracted plenty of attention with his form in Ligue 1, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 22 appearances as he’s certainly impressing at just 20 years of age.

Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan has struggled for form this season and has dropped in and out of the squad at times. However, if Arsenal were to sign him and rediscover the player who produced 23 goals and 32 assists in 52 games in his final season for Borussia Dortmund in the 2015/16 campaign, they’ll be making a brilliant signing.
