Arsenal have reportedly failed in their efforts to sign Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of any potential transfer deal involving Alexis Sanchez.
According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have rejected any prospect of allowing Martial to move to Arsenal, while El Mercurio (translated by the Metro) report that Henrikh Mkhitaryan doesn’t want to join the Gunners.
Either player could have been a fine signing for Arsenal in a bid to replace the departing Sanchez in attack, with BBC Sport today reporting that United were in pole position over a January transfer.
Sky Sports suggest a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be on the cards instead, while the Guardian claim Malcom has held talks over a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
Sanchez will prove a tough act to follow at Arsenal, having shown himself to be one of Europe’s finest attacking players in the last few years.
The Chile international joined Arsenal from Barcelona in the summer of 2014 and has scored 80 goals in 165 games for the north London giants, including two that came in FA Cup final victories.
Sanchez, 29, also looks like he could be a great fit at United, but it now seems he’ll be playing alongside Martial and Mkhitaryan rather than replacing them.
