Arsenal fans got their first look at January signing Konstantinos Mavropanos on Monday night as he featured in their U23s win over Man Utd.
Having arrived from PAS Giannina earlier this month, the Greek U21 international will hope to prove that he’s worthy of a move to the Gunners and will look to impress Arsene Wenger.
On first glimpse and based on the comments below, it looks as though the 20-year-old impressed the supporters with a composed performance at the back with many picking up on his quality on the ball as well as defensive abilities.
Arsenal went on to win the game 4-0 to give fans a boost with the senior side not faring so well, but perhaps Mavropanos will be able to make a breakthrough at the top level sooner rather than later.
With Per Mertesacker set to retire at the end of the season while Laurent Koscielny turns 33 later this year, fresh blood is needed in the Arsenal backline in the coming years and Wenger might have the solution at his disposal already.
Nevertheless, it was just one performance and so it remains to be seen how Mavropanos develops in time as he will have to kick on and improve as well as show the consistency needed at the highest level.
He’s brilliant and so composed. I love him already

His vision and passing is awesome, strong, tall and quick. Needs more game time but I’ve no doubt if he’s trained up could be world class

Can’t believe he’s a defender. His passing is like a cultured midfielder.

I remember my tweet about Holding, he has ended up disappointing me. I wont be quick to judge this one too.

Mavropanos has been tidy on the ball so far… but don’t just take our word for it
