Lionel Messi part of Barcelona duo trying to force sale of €35m+ flop

It’s fair to say that Andre Gomes hasn’t had the best of times at Barcelona, now reports are claiming that Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez want him gone.

The 24-year-old joined the Catalan giants from Valencia in 2016 for an initial €35m, as per BBC Sport, and has gone on to make 66 appearances for the club.

However, the problem is that he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a first-team regular or entirely convince that he’s capable of fitting in and making the step up to be a success at the Nou Camp.

Most of his outings this season have been off the bench in a bit-part role, and question marks have been raised over how long he will survive at Barcelona.

According to Diario Gol, as re-reported by The Express, it’s claimed that he may be on borrowed time already with Messi and Suarez said to have seen enough to be convinced that he should be sold.

With the additional competition for places now that Philippe Coutinho has signed for the club, it will likely get increasingly more difficult for Gomes, albeit Ernesto Valverde has looked to him a little more in recent weeks.

Coupled with the fact that he has continued to be seen as a valuable part of the squad even if as a fringe player offering quality and depth over the past 18 months, there is a strong argument to suggest that the Portuguese international could stay.

However, along with Arda Turan, Javier Mascherano, Rafinha, Gerard Deulofeu and Aleix Vidal, there could be an exodus at Barcelona in the coming weeks, as per Diario Gol, as they look to clear out their squad a little while raising funds to cover the spending that they’ve done on Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele in the last two transfer windows.
